5 Bible Verses for Anxiety

Ugh, where do I begin with Anxiety? I don’t think it’s far-fetched to say that anxiety is certainly a pandemic for our times. We all experience some degree of anxiety almost every day. We worry about money, the economy, our jobs, kids, safety, the list can be endless. For those lucky enough to handle anxiety without too much interruption to their lives, what a blessing that is.

The struggle is real….

For so many of us, anxiety can spiral out of control where it does affect our daily life, our sleep and our physical body! I won’t get into the many ways to cope, as this is very personal to the individual. I’ve suffered from anxiety and panic attacks almost my whole life. Luckily, we now live in a time where we have so many options to treat these disorders and the stigma is being lifted where there is no shame in struggling with anxiety disorders.

Wisdom in the scriptures…

For us Christians, we can often overlook what the bible says about anxiety, and amazingly enough there is so much scripture regarding anxiety. It’s clear our Lord knew this was something humans were going to struggle with in our very broken world. Despite the efforts I make to manage my anxiety and panic attacks, I will very often go to the words of scripture for comfort. I feel we are living in times of spiritual warfare, and nothing is more powerful then remembering that we are called to put on the armor of God and be courageous in our journey as we navigate our earthly life.

5 Bible Verses for Anxiety

Phillippians 4:6-7 NIV

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Peter 5:6-7 NIV

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Joshua 1:9 NIV

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Matthew 6:34 NIV

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has trouble of it’s own.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

There are so many bible verses on anxiety to chose from, but I love these 5 to uplift the spirit and give encouragement. These verses call us to not worry and cast our worries to God. We are called to be courageous and it’s ok if we don’t understand our struggles, the Lord will sort it all out in his time. But the most important thing is to trust God, not matter how bad our situation is. We will get through, one day at time.
